Routine Traffic Stop Lands Springfield Man In Jail

What started as a routine traffic stop over a minor infraction spiraled into multiple felony charges for one Springfield man on Tuesday, March 12.

Garrett Tyndal, 28, was pulled over around 9:45 p.m. near the intersection of Boston Road and Heath Street, Springfield police said. An officer noticed his car's registration was revoked. 

But shortly after approaching the car, the officer noticed something was amiss. 

The officer searched the car and found a loaded pistol that Tyndal was not licensed to have and an illegal amount of marijuana, authorities said. Police arrested Tyndal, but allowed his three passengers to leave. 

Tyndal is charged with: 

  • Carrying a firearm without a license
  • Carrying a loaded firearm without a license
  • Possession of a high-capacity magazine/feeding device
  • Possession of ammunition without an FID card
  • Possession of a Class D drug
  • Uninsured motor vehicle
  • Unregistered motor vehicle
